Explore the wildlife on your doorstep - and share your thoughts
What do you know about the wildlife near your home - and what we can do to make the area even more nature-friendly?A community BioBlitz in Findon Valley, Worthing, tomorrow (Thursday 4 August) is the chance for people of all ages to get to know what is living and thriving close by.
Worthing Borough Council’s park rangers will be running the free event from 10am to 3pm at Shepherds Mead near Cissbury Ring, including activities such as guided walks, bug hunts, and soap arrowhead-making sessions.
Cllr Vicki Wells, Worthing’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “The BioBlitz is an exciting event and a great summer holiday outing for people of all ages to explore the flora and fauna and a bit of Stone Age history on our doorstep, under the expert guidance of our fantastic park rangers."
The BioBlitz is also a chance for the rangers and the community to collect vital information about the wildlife on Shepherds Mead.
Alongside the rangers, The Big Listen team from the Council will be on hand to hear from members of the community about their priorities for Worthing.
The Council wants to talk to people about their views on how Worthing could be reshaped for 2030 - and how we can work together to make it happen.
Cllr Carl Walker, the Deputy Leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: “The presence of The Big Listen team is an opportunity for people to have their say about Worthing’s green and blue spaces, and what we can do together to ensure that these beautiful outdoor areas can be enjoyed by everyone all year round.”
