Conversations between members of The Big Listen team from Worthing Borough Council and residents have highlighted areas within the town that need to be made more accessible, more green and more welcoming.
Now the Council wants to focus on which areas should be addressed first and how they could be improved, and is asking both residents and visitors for their thoughts.
People are being asked to visit the Council’s website to say what places they would like to change, why and what could be done. Among the features that might be considered are better street lighting, extra seating or shelters, or more trees and planting.
Anyone getting involved is encouraged to get creative, using drawings, sketches or pictures of their ideas - including photographs and maps pinpointing specific areas.
The first 100 people to send in their ideas will be given a £25 Worthing gift card that can be used in more than 100 shops in the town. The consultation will run until 21 October.
Cllr Martin McCabe, Worthing’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “The Big Listen has given us a great start by highlighting that people really care about where they live and work, and that they want to see our town change for the better.
“Now we need everyone’s help to pick out exactly where improvements are a priority, and what we should do to make our town better for all of us.”

A flood-hit charity has thanked the local community and the Mayor of Worthing for their kind donations to help with the clean up and restoration of its store. Worthing-based Superstar Arts had to close their premises on South Street, Tarring after damage to nearby pipes saw water gush in.

West Sussex Alternative Provision College (WSAPC) and Olive Academies Trust are thrilled to announce that they have entered into a one-year partnership. This is an exciting development, which sees two strong organisations sharing expertise and experience to benefit students and staff alike. The partnership provides a fantastic opportunity to focus on leadership development and the quality of education provision across both organisations, with a view to identifying, refining and embedding best practice across their academies.
Both organisations are keen for the partnership to lead to WSAPC converting to become part of Olive Academies Trust by the end of the one-year agreement, which is a really positive prospect.
This partnership marks an important milestone as they all focus on the much-needed reform within alternative provision and SEND. By working together they are in a better position to support the national schools agenda and further improve outcomes for the children and young people they support.
