June 1st, 2021Revamped Highdown Gardens reopened after £1 million lottery investment
The Mayor of Worthing today cut the ribbon to officially open the new look Highdown Gardens telling assembled guests the site ‘held a special place in all our hearts’.Cllr Lionel Harman, the borough's first citizen, said he was impressed with the £1 million renewal of the world-famous gardens which have been in the stewardship of Worthing Borough Council since they were handed over for the benefit of local residents more than 50 years ago.
The project has been mostly funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, helping increase accessibility to the gardens, as well as telling the fascinating social and horticultural story of its establishment between the World Wars and the work undertaken since by the Borough Council to maintain them.

Work underway on Worthing’s seafront pop-up terrace
An exciting pop-up project which will turn under-utilised land overlooking Worthing seafront into a brand new food, drink and wellbeing hub will open in a matter of weeks.Innovative property company QED will start work this week to transform the open-air terrace at Grafton multi-storey car park into a temporary food and drink outlet for local independent businesses.

RENEWED THREAT FROM A FRESH APPLICATION FOR A PROPOSED 5G POLE AT BROADWATER SHOPS
Gaisford Councillor Kevin Jenkins is urging local traders and residents to yet again come together and oppose the proposed installation by Hutchinson UK Ltd of a 5G telecommunications mast and cabinets on the grass area in front of Cricketers Parade in Broadwater. In this new application the mast has been reduced to 15 metres in height, but would still have four cabinets extending in length over 6 metres along the edge of the grassed area at the front of Cricketers parade.The proposal has been submitted to Worthing Borough Council planning department for decision, despite the previous refusal on the grounds of ‘The proposed mast, by virtue of its siting adjacent to the Broadwater Green Conservation Area and proximity to the Broadwater Conservation Area and height substantially exceeding that of surrounding streetworks and buildings within a well used shopping parade would adversely the visual character of the area and the setting of the adjacent and nearby Conservation Areas.
