The fearlessly imaginative and physically daring Lîla Dance bring their latest work to Worthing
Worthing Theatres and Museum are excited to welcome Lîla Dance to the Connaught Theatre on Saturday 17 July with The Hotel Experience. Known for their visually stunning and cinematic work Lîla Dances latest show will captivate audiences with an extraordinary night of dance.The Hotel Experience sees a man check into a hotel the night before his wedding unaware that things may not be as they seem. This is no ordinary Hotel room, but a space that remakes and re-structures itself in tune to the psychological and emotional states of the people that occupy it. Memories that were seemingly forgotten are brought back to reality to be relived once more.
As the clock ticks the walls around him seem to blur and dissolve as fragments of memories tumble into the room in the form of past lovers. They fall from the ceilings, crawl out from under the bed and step out of wardrobes to face him once more with full force and in vivid colours. The Hotel Experience becomes a night of doubt, hope, crisis, and unexpected encounters. When the sun rises, he has an important decision to make.
The integration of dance, set design, lighting and sound create DIY multi sensory images to create a Tarkovsky inspired ‘room of dreams’. So, check-in at the Connaught Theatre to find out why Lîla Dance are rapidly becoming one of Britain’s fastest growing dance companies, with a reputation for redefining community involvement in professional productions.
Fearlessly imaginative, and physically daring, Lîla Dance is run by three artistic directors who work with dance, physical theatre and music to create unique and meaningful dance experiences across the UK. They start each work by creating an immersive world for their dancers’ characters to live, breathe and move in. This evolves through a contemporary artistic exploration of thoughts and feelings which are woven together with text, movement and sound.
Lîla Dance include participants of all ages at the heart of what they do, making them nationally renowned for our ground-breaking performances which invite community members to become an integral part of their professional touring work. They are an @Home artist of The Point and an Associate Company of the University of Chichester.
