Warm spaces open up in Adur and Worthing
Community warm spaces have started to open up across Adur and Worthing - meaning residents will have somewhere to keep warm for free this winter. For the third year, Adur & Worthing Councils have provided funding for community groups and not-for-profit organisations to set up the warm spaces and help offset the running costs.
Warm spaces offer people who are worried about the rising cost of energy bills a place to keep warm, as well as reducing social isolation with group activities or a welcome cup of tea. Help and support with the cost of living will also be on offer at some venues.
Already, several warm spaces have opened their doors to visitors, with more set to open soon.
A handy map of all the warm space venues across Adur and Worthing is now available to view on the councils’ website - helping residents to easily find one close to where they live.
The map also provides details of opening hours, as well as whether there are refreshments and activities available.
Cllr Lee Cowen, Adur’s cabinet member for housing and citizen services, said: “We’re really glad to have been able to help community groups and organisations to provide warm spaces once again. The warm spaces are located within our communities so that people won’t have to travel too far and all provide a friendly and welcoming environment that is open to everyone.”
Cllr Ödül Bozkurt, Worthing’s cabinet member for housing and citizen services, said: “We know that with winter and the arrival of cold weather many residents will feel the bite of rising energy prices, struggle to keep their homes warm or worry about how much it will cost. They can find a warm welcome in these spaces, an opportunity to connect with other community members and, in some locations, also volunteers to provide advice for help with cost of living.”
