The event, which is being hosted at Rooms on the top floor of the Guildbourne Centre later this week, will see the Council connect with members of the housing development sector with the aim of building relationships to help bring forward the delivery of homes the town needs.

Property developers, housing associations, charities, architects and consultants are being invited to the conference to hear from Councillors and Council officers on how Worthing can provide an exciting opportunity for vibrant housing schemes.

While the town is on the up, the Council is aware of the high demand from residents and those looking to move to the borough for affordable and social housing for people of all ages.

Wanting to meet the needs of local people, the conference will explore how the Council can work in partnership with developers to bring socially responsible schemes to fruition, especially at their two main undeveloped sites: Teville Gate and Union Place.

Close to 100 members of the housing industry are expected to attend the event, and will be taken on tours of the two sites to get an impression of their size and potential. The guests will be catered for by local eatery Feast.

Cllr Emma Taylor, Worthing’s Cabinet Member for Citizen Services, said: “Last year we highlighted our desire to host a housing conference for the town, and I’m really pleased to see this vision come to life. The event provides a perfect opportunity for us to bring together experts from around the country and outline the best model for us to create mixed communities and provide sustainable and accessible housing for those on our housing waiting list.”

Following the event, the Council will keep in contact with attendees to encourage the development of joined-up, vibrant and environmentally friendly housing schemes.
